Abstract
The objective of this study is to describe the cases of gonorrhea infection recorded in a center for sexually transmitted diseases (STD) and the factors associated with HIV coinfection. Retrospective, descriptive study of all cases of gonorrhea infection diagnosed in 2005. Among 134 cases of gonorrhea, 124 occurred in men who have sex with men. The factors associated with HIV coinfection were a prior history of STD and sexual risk practices under the effects of alcohol and/or drugs (OR, 13.4; 95% CI 1.3-139.1; OR, 39.8; 95% CI 1.3-1194.3). An increase in the number of cases of gonorrhea infection is reported, predominantly in the population of men who have sex with men.
