Abstract

The Brazilian family agriculture is characterized by a way of organizing production in which criteria used for decision-making are not defined only in relation to productivity and economic profitability, but also of the need and objectives of the family. For these reasons, the guidance to farmers should be based on specific diagnoses that provide these features. This study aimed to achieve a diagnosis social-economic family farming community of Pindoba, located in the municipality of Sand-MO. The diagnosis was carried from the application of a questionnaire through semi-structured interviews with 30 families representative of the community. The topics covered were: social profile, education, technical assistance, major sources of income and agricultural production. The results indicate that farmers can be divided into two main groups: those from lower conditions, q ue have areas of 1 to 8 there, planted with cassava, maize and beans, mainly for family consumption. The best of infrastructure, have over 8 areas and there is succeed in a production and higher yields due mainly to the use of irrigation and fertilization of crops, especially bananas and oranges. Both groups did not have the vast majority technical assistance. The diagnosis was a tool to better know the reality of the community and can serve as a support for drawing up action plans to improve production systems to improve agricultural practices through the optimization of natural resources. It was found that future actions in the community should consider the farmers' awareness about the claim, together with the competent bodies of basic rights such as improved sanitation.
