Abstract

Selective mutism consists of a consistent failure to speak in specific social conditions in which there is an expectation to communicate. It produces a decrease in functionality in several areas of life.The case of a 26-year-old woman with mutist symptoms since childhood is presented. The main objective of this article is to carry out a review of selective mutism and the different disorders that can encompass these symptoms, presenting the different diagnosis between anxiety disorder including social anxiety or social phobia, avoidant personality disorder or autism spectrum disorder.
