Abstract

ABSTRACT Introduction Cystercosis is a cestode infection that is common in tropical countries. At present, there are many new reports from many nontropical countries. This disease is a tissue parasitic infestation. Ocular cysticercosis is a possible clinical presentation. The disease might be missed by practitioner who is not familiar with tropical disease. Here, the author reviews, summarizes, and discussed on diagnosis and management of ocular cysticercosis. Areas covered In this review, the author summarizes and discusses on new reports on diagnosis and treatment of cysticercosis. Finally, the errors and pitfalls on diagnosis and treatment of cysticercosis are mentioned. Expert commentary Recognition of the disease is an important requirement for further diagnosis and treatment of ocular cysticercosis. There are many new diagnostic tools as well as new therapeutic approaches. Ophthalmologists have to update knowledge on those new medical issues.
