Abstract

There are many parasitic diseases affecting the eye. These parasites, which can be involved in intraocular and extraocular tissues, can manifest with a wide variety of findings and variable-severity of inflammation. Fecal-ocular transmission or direct invasion is possible. Direct observation of parasitic cysts in the stool, presence of eosinophilia, and detection of mobile parasites in ocular tissues are diagnostic. Anti-parasitic medications, laser photocoagulation, and vitrectomy may be needed.
