Abstract
Most of domestic buildings have been over 15 years since their construction. The aged buildings tend to deteriorate thermal performance of envelopes and increase energy use. Therefore, green remodeling is carried out to improve the thermal performance of the aged buildings. There were a number of cases conducted remodeling of an existing building to improve a building performance. However, it is rare to remodel an existing building to zero energy level. In addition, there is no analysis on effects and considerations for remodeling to zero energy building level, neither standard remodeling manual for references. Therefore, it is currently being remodeled based on the knowledge and experience of the contractor. This study reviewed diagnostic and remodeling plans to remodel buildings to zero energy levels and tried to assist in the production of standard remodeling manuals. A target building constructed in 2000 was selected, and this study implemented several energy-efficiency measures: passive, active, and renewable. As a result, this study achieved 1 ++ level of the “Building Energy Saving Design Standard” and achieved zero energy building level.
