Abstract

In this paper a novel approach for fault location in distribution networks is presented. The distributed generator's (DG) effect in such a network is studied and its influence on a simple fault location method is analyzed. Two DG models are considered - an ideal and a realistic one, for the validation of the fault location algorithm. Simulations were performed on ATP-EMTP, in order to test the analytical formula and the results are discussed. A possible use of DG fault current measurements for fault distance calculation and location purposes is outlined and a case study is considered
