Abstract

DFIG type distributed generation (DG) involvement on radial distribution systems increasing the switching operations (SOs) of Voltage Controlled Devices (VCDs). To reduce the SOs of VCDs, proper reactive power coordination is the preferred solution. This paper proposes a method in which load is forecast one in advance and Particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm preferred for optimizing the objective function. Objective function is formulated as cost function which includes SOs and also power loss. Under load tap changer (ULTC) and Shunt capacitors (SCs) at different locations preferred as VCDs. The proposed method designed in Matlab and applied on practical 10KV test system. Obtained results demonstrated that this method reduced the objective function effectively compared with conventional and dynamic programming methods without violating the grid conditions.
