Abstract

Abstract: Catechists in their ministry interact with members of other Christian denominations but may be unaware of the many recent efforts toward restoring Christian unity. Ecumenism has as a goal that Catholics work toward "becoming one" with other Christian traditions. This essay provides a helpful overview of the ecumenical movement as well as providing practical reflections on an ecumenically attuned catechesis. The many official dialogues taking place between the Catholic Church and other Christians underscore the need for receptive ecumenism that is open to learning from others. A deep respect for other Christian traditions and attentiveness to the guidance of the Holy Spirit move us closer to the unity Christ prayed for.
