Abstract

Drilling activity increased in all 3 CSD Districts covered by this report. Exploratory drilling resulted in a success ratio of 8% in Arkansas, 13.6% in North Louisiana, and 10.3% in East Texas. The most important area of exploratory and development activity in Arkansas continued to be in the Smackover limestone trend. Mohawk and Chalybeat Springs fields were among the leaders in field development during the year. Discoveries in North Louisiana were made in the Wilcox (Eocene), Tuscaloosa, Paluxy, Rodessa, Hosston, Cotton Valley, Haynesville, and Smackover. The Hosston and Cotton Valley trends continued to be very active. A new depth record was set at Cotton Valley by Cotton Valley Operators Committee 1 CVOC-Hunt-Hope, a presalt test that reached TD of 20, 359 ft. Discoveries in East Texas were made in the Nacatoch, Navarro, Austin Chalk, Glen Rose, Rodessa, Travis Peak, Cotton Valley, and Smackover. A Smackover discovery in Wood County was important because it established pr duction on a very complex salt structure basinward of the current producing trend.
