Abstract
How good is fluctuating asymmetry (FA) as an indicator of developmental instability? Human studies have centered mainly on dental dimensions and dermatoglyphics. Dental studies have provided no convincing evidence that FA shows significant heritability, or is increased by inbreeding or by a stressful environment. It may, however, be increased by teratogenic exposures, and the use of FA as an indicator of teratogenic insult more subtle than overt malformation should be explored.KeywordsDown SyndromeCleft PalateFluctuate AsymmetryPrenatal StressDevelopmental InstabilityThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
