Abstract

This case example involves a developmentally apraxic 8-year-old girl who uses a multimodal communication system. This report describes implementation of the Partners in Augmentative Communication Training program (Culp & Carlisle, 1988) with the subject, her mother, the classroom teacher, and the school speech-language pathologist. Both formal pre-test compared with 2 month post-test data and informal participant observations suggest some improvement in communication interaction skills as a result of the intervention described. This case illustrates several issues regarding developmental apraxia and the use of augmentative and alternative communication which require further consideration.
