Abstract

In recent years we have seen a drastic increase in cyber attacks which has led to a rise in sensitive information being compromised. The security measures taken by the organization are being circumvented by the attackers. Data analysis of the past attacks can help us in understanding the patterns and trends in cybersecurity breaches. This way, organizations can come up with more flexible and cost-effective security measures. However, the analysis of past security breaches is challenging as there are no proper repositories that contain the information required for concluding or predicting trends of attacks. Also, the cyber attacks have become very common and a new attack is reported on a daily basis. Hence, dynamic analysis of data will yield better results than the conventional way of data analysis. In this paper, we present the prototype of a tool that can extract and structure information using the public data available on the Internet containing information regarding the cyber attacks that have taken place all around the world. Using this collected data we can analyze and predict trends in the cyber breaches. We envision that the obtained results from the analysis can help organizations in deriving new proactive and effective security measures. This way, organizations can enhance their cybersecurity risk management programs and as a result, avoid similar attacks.
