Abstract

Objective To prepare the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/chitosan (CS) composite foam materials with biological activity, and to optimize the production processes by which the materials with ideal aperture size, porosity and flexibility were produced. Methods The PVA/CS composite foam material was prepared through the process of mixing and dissolving, emulsification and foaming, acetal fixing, drying and curing, and removing acid and aldehyde. The aperture size, porosity, flexibility and anti-bacterial activity of the materials in 10 groups were detected by using the methods of measurement,the weight of law,mechani-cal testing, and bacterial culture. Results The aperture size of the material was increased by about 0.267 mm,the porosity increased by about 7%,and the flexibility strengthened by about 0. 120 Mpa. The anti-bacterial activity was enhanced significantly with the increase of the CS in the material. Conclusion The prepared PVA/CS composite foam material gets ideal aperture size, porosity, and flexibility, and has the an-ti-bacterial activity.
