Abstract

Improving thermal efficiency in modern steam turbines can only be achieved by the application of new cooling systems, such as effusion cooling. On the basis of the grid sheet, a new sandwich material with perforated cover sheets and a hollow interlayer containing cavities, a new cooling component for steam turbine casing and rotor parts that fulfills both the mechanical and the functional characteristics can be manufactured. For the low-pressure turbine a process for open porosity powder metallurgical composites has been developed.
