Abstract

AbstractThe growing freight traffic is a fundamental part of modern changes in economic systems at the global, regional, and local levels, making logistics increasingly relevant. These changes are not only quantitative in nature with an increasing number of goods turnovers, but also of a structural and operational character. Thus, the fundamental question is not necessarily the nature, origin, and direction of the goods, but rather how the cargo moves. New methods of production determine the emergence of new modes of distribution; this means that the science of physical distribution, a constituent of logistics, is coming to the fore. Today, transport in Russia is a dynamically developing industry that provides sustainable links between other sectors of the national and regional economy. Unless transport is functioning efficiently, technological and production processes as well as sales activities are disrupted, and the operations of enterprises, regardless of their type, cannot be set up to function optimally. In an unstable and ever-changing external environment, successful management of transport processes and material flows becomes an urgent task both at the local and state levels. In this situation, one of the most effective ways of organizing cargo transportation is multimodal transportation. The purpose of this article is to take a closer look at the specifics of the development of intermodal and multimodal transportation в Poccии. Objectives of the article: to study intermodal and multimodal transportation; to analyse the development of multimodal and intermodal transportation in Russia; to look closely at digital technologies used in transportation in Russia.KeywordsMultimodal transportationIntermodal transportationSocio-economic space cohesionSpatial resources
