Abstract

Some areas are more prone to landslides due to numerous varieties of factors and these landslide susceptible areas are needed to be identified and classified. The Classified European Landslide Susceptibility map v1.0 (ELSUS1000) represents the spatial likelihood of landslide occurrence in five classes, as a 1 km raster data set. Within ELSUS1000, Landslide Susceptibility Map of Croatia was prepared. Here, the Croatian segment of this map is evaluated, reviewed, updated and optimized—improved with regional data sets. More detailed input data are used: basic geological map in scale of 1:300,000 and DEM 25 × 25 m. The basic input parameters in this, pure heuristic approach is the same as in ELSUS but the used criteria are adapted to this region and known landslide data. Input parameters included: slope gradient map, soil parent material map and land cover map. The derived landslide susceptibility map is represented in four classes, as a 1 km raster data set. Based on comparison of Landslide Susceptibility Map of Croatia (LSMC) and the map obtained by ELSUS, one can conclude that LSMC map in general, is more accurate for the landslide susceptibility assessment in Croatian territory.
