Abstract

This study aimed to formulate floating tablets of amlodipine using different grades of HPMC polymers with varied concentrations by direct compression method. Six formulations were prepared and evaluated for various parameters such as angle of repose, bulk density, tapped density, Carr's compressibility index, and Hausner's ratio. Tablets were subjected to several tests to determine drug content uniformity, disintegration times, floating behavior, tablet thickness, hardness, friability, weight variation, and in vitro dissolution. The optimum formulation was also evaluated for differential scanning calorimetry tests and particle size and morphology analysis. The results suggest that direct compression method can be used to prepare floating tablets of amlodipine with suitable characteristics for oral administration.
