Abstract

Friction stir processing is a revolutionary way for improving a base alloy's microstructure and mechanical characteristics by incorporating reinforcement particles. In this investigation, reinforcing particles (TiO2 and graphene) are mixed with AA7075-T651 to create hybrid surface composites. The effect of reinforcing on surface characteristics is examined. Material flow and particle dispersion are studied using optical microscopy. The mechanical and tribological characteristics of the manufactured composites are evaluated using microhardness and wear tests. According to the current work, the AA7075/50% TiO2/50% graphene exhibits an equiaxed grain microstructure, which improves surface characteristics such as microhardness and wear. The pinning effect of reinforcing particles and the decrease in particle size lead to the enhanced microhardness of 192 HV. In comparison to BM, the lubricative properties of graphene particles lead to a lower COF and wear rate.
