Abstract

Principles and materials for three types of ceramic sensors to detect gaseous components related to environmental problems are briefly reviewed. Newly developed sensors, based on solid electrolytes or semiconducting oxides, are demonstrated for detecting oxygenic gases (CO/sub 2/, NO, NO/sub 3/, SO/sub x/, and O/sub 3/) and offensive odorants (NH/sub 3/ and H/sub 2/S).
