Abstract
The new control system becomes neccessary because the control of the urban expressway such as restricting the number of booths and closing ramps has depended upon skilled operators' judgement and decision. The objective of the study is to develope the simple judgement system in place of the operators and to suggest the process to consider the new efficient traffic control, the method of fuzzy reasoning is utilized to build up the traffic control model which describe the operators' judgement process. The Osaka-Sakai route of Hanshin expressway is the example route that the performace of the model is examined. The actual oprerating data were gathered on the route. As a result of the study, it becomes known that the fuzzy logic traffic control system is able to describe actual judgement process and take the place of human operators automatically. If the practical traffic control system based on the fuzzy control is established, it will become valuable to decrease the loads of the skilled operators who make decision every time, and helpful to develope more effective operation procedure. In addition, total system of fuzzy traffic control includes the improvement process is also able to be suggested.
