Abstract
Tropic thunder! A new class of antitrypanosomal and antimalarial agents containing an unsymmetrically substituted pyrrole- or furan-2,5-dicarboxylate as a core fragment has been discovered. The compounds show excellent activity against the causative agents of malaria (Plasmodium falciparum) and nagana (Trypanosoma brucei brucei). Syntheses were developed for structurally diverse compound series and enzyme screenings were performed.
