Abstract
A modified local bump injection scheme using a novel dual-channel kicker is proposed for beam injection into a diffraction-limited storage ring (DLSR) at the Hefei Advanced Light Facility (HALF). The dual-channel kicker combines the functions of a standard kicker and a special septum magnet, which deflects the stored beam while remaining transparent to the injected beam. Compared to those of traditional local bump schemes, this scheme can reduce the dynamic aperture requirements and is expected to be promising for 4th generation storage rings. This paper presents a detailed discussion of the dual-channel kicker, its underlying principles, magnetic field and mechanical design, simulations, field measurements, and future optimizations.
