Abstract
A 30 m prototype 100 MVA(66 kV-1 kA) high temperature superconducting (HTSC) power cable system was developed. This system consists of a 30 m long single phase cable, terminations, a 66 kV XLPE cable for a current loop and a cooling system which circulated sub-cooled liquid nitrogen. In initial tests, 40 kV-1 kA ac was successfully applied to the HTSC prototype cable. As the next step, 40 kV-500 A ac was successfully applied for more than 100 hours. During the test, the temperature and pressure of circulating liquid nitrogen were controlled to 72 K and 0.2 kg/cm/sup 2/, respectively.
