Abstract

With the significant increase of the wind power generation technology, there are many studies about the wind turbine control and the impact on the power system after integration. However, the mechanical and aerodynamic behaviors of the wind turbine were usually simplified when studying control and influence on the power system. Namely, the dynamic performance was studied with a fairly simple model of the power system because many research works did not consider the modelling of the whole wind turbine system. Since the mechanical and electrical systems are coupled, the complete model should consist of mechanical and electrical parts. Thus, this study highlights that a complete wind turbine modelling should consider the characteristics of the blades, mechanical system, yaw and pitch, and generator. In this study, the mechanical dynamics of a wind turbine is simulated by ADAMS; aerodynamic of blades is simulated by FAST; the model of the generator, yaw control system and pitch control system is constructed by MATLAB/Simulink.
