Abstract

This work demonstrated the joining of SUS304 stainless steel to polycarbonate (PC) using an atmospheric pressure radio frequency (RF) plasma jet in conjunction with thermal press fitting. The tensile shear stress values of samples bonded after plasma treatment of both the SUS304 and PC were found to be higher than those of specimens in which only one or neither surface was exposed to the plasma. These results confirm that an atmospheric pressure RF plasma jet can be applied to the joining of different materials.
