Abstract

A neutron calibration facility that conforms to the specifications for calibration and testing laboratories laid down by the UK National Measurement Accreditation Service (NAMAS) and the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) is being developed at the National Radiological Protection Board. In the first phase of this programme a medium-sized room located amidst a suite of calibration laboratories has been adapted for the purpose. The methods used for achieving reduction in room-scattered neutrons and leakage of radiation to the adjoining laboratories/access areas are described. The results of measurements carried out to demonstrate the improvements achieved are presented.
