Abstract

In this paper, a microstrip-fed multi-band antenna is proposed for wireless communication applications. The proposed multi-band characteristics are implemented by etching ratio period defected microstrip structures (RP-DMSs) into a 50Ω microstrip line to construct desired stop bands in a wide-band antenna. As a result, a multi-band antenna is realized for S-band, C-band and X-band communication systems. The proposed antenna is simulated by using high frequency structure simulator (HFSS). The simulated results show that the designed antenna can not only provide quad operating band for S-band, C-band and X-band applications but also can be used as a notch band UWB antenna. Also, the proposed antenna has an omnidirectional radiation patterns and good multi-band characteristics, rendering it suitable for multi-band communication and band-notched UWB systems.
