Abstract

The carbon neutral shipping should be achieved no later than 2050. However, technologies for the propulsion and the fuel systems are not established, the fuel supply chain is not established and regulations for decarbonization are under discussion in IMO. Designing the carbon neutral ships in this transition phase has difficulties with these undetermined conditions. The optimum design of carbon neutral ships and the optimum time to install these to the market could be achieved with the cooperation across the sectors from shipyards, shipowners, operators, and more stakeholders including the government with clear provision of satisfactory profits or decarbonization results to each sector. Under this recognition, the simulator to provide the decarbonization data and cost estimation during this transition phase was developed together with the communication system to determine the best solution for all stakeholders. This paper shows the concept and prototyping results of the communication system.
