Abstract

The Coalition's small business policy A Small Business Agenda for the New Millennium, released before the last election, indicated that Commonwealth departments and agencies would publish annual regulatory plans. These will include information about regulations introduced or repealed over the previous calendar year, and information about future regulatory measures under consideration. Publication of a regulatory plan aims to make it easier for small business operators, business representative organisations and business advisers to obtain information about changes to regulation, and to improve their opportunities to contribute to the development of regulation. Annual regulatory plans may also be valuable tools for government organisations, both as a focus for strategic planning of regulatory activity, and as a means of keeping abreast of regulatory developments across all areas of government.
