Abstract

This paper describes the development of the six-component force/moment load cell using multiple binocular-type structures. The experimental technique using the L16 orthogonal array was applied to determine the dimensions of the main geometric factors of the binocular structure. The locations of the strain gages were determined from the strain distribution using finite element analysis. The load cell consists of six Wheatstone full bridge circuits to increase sensitivity and compensate for ambient temperature. The calibration of the designed six-component load cell showed that the fabricated sensor with the maximum capacities of 196 N in forces and 19.6 Nm in moments has a coupling error less than 3 % FS.
