Abstract

Abstract Natural (dissipative) systems undergo developments from an immature condition through maturity to senescence. Immaturity is known by the combination of relative simplicity of informational structure and sustained growth riding on large energy throughputs. Senescence is known by the combination of relative informational complexity and low energy throughput. We need to be able to discern which model is appropriate for postindustrial, postmodern sociocultural systems in order to make sensible suggestions as to directions of effort that should be encouraged.
