Abstract

The goal of this study was to figure out how to measure tetraprenyltoluquinone (TPTQ) in Garcinia cowa Roxb bark hexane extract. TPTQ is an important marker chemical identified in the bark of G. cowa . A rapid and effective method to determine of tetraprenyltoluquinone (TPTQ) by TLC densitometry method in the G. cowa was developed for the first time. As the mobile phase, a combination of hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and formic acid (20: 70:9:1, v/v/v/v) was used. TPTQ was separated using TLC and then measured using densitometry in absorbance mode at 203 nm. The concentration between 500‒1500 ppm.spot-1 gave a linear regression analysis data with r2 = 0,993. It was found that the hexane extract of this stem had 25,27% of TPTQ. This method was discovered to be simple, precise, and accurate. This information can be utilized to do regular analyses on G. cowa biomarker compounds. The quantification and validation method of this marker was reported for the first time in G. cowa which may be used for the appropriate examination of the plant.
