Abstract

A simple, precise, and accurate high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) method for the simultaneous determination of Metorpolol Succinate (MS) and Olmesartan Medoxomil (OLM) in their combined tablet dosage form has been developed and validated. Metorpolol Succinate and Olmesartan Medoxomil from the formulation was separated on silica gel 60 GF254 HPTLC plates with solutions in the proportion of chloroform-toluene- methanol--GAA (6:2.3:1.5:0.2 v/v/v/v) as mobile phase. Densitometric quantification was performed at 280 nm. Well-resolved bands were obtained with Rf values 0.34 and 0.54 for Metorpolol Succinate and Olmesartan Medoxomil respectively. The method was validated for precision, accuracy and specificity. The calibration curve was found to be linear in the concentration range of 4750-14250 ng/band and 4000-12000 ng/band of MS and OLM respectively. Correlation co-efficient by area is 0.9957 and 0.9672 for MS and OLM respectively. The method is selective and specific, with potential application in pharmaceutical analysis of these drugs in combined tablet dosage form.
