Abstract

Control and protease-treated isolates were cultured with or without @APN respectively. All isolates treated with /3APN failed to generate cells that express the myogenic marker MHC, but they contained cells that express the endodermal marker Endo-l (Fig. ID and E, respectively). This suggests that the ECM is required for differentiation of secondary mesenchyme cells along the myogenic pathway. This work was made possible by a Frederik B. Bang Fellowship and an MBL Associates Fellowship. I would like to thank the MBL community for its generous support. This work was also supported in part by NSF award IBN 9506346 to J.M.V. MHC and Endo-l antibodies were generously provided by Dr. Gary Wessel, Brown University.
