Abstract

Purpose: Artificial intelligence (AI) tools have the potential to address the complexity of clinical decision making and possibly limit the bias inherent in individual decision making. Poor outcomes for patients with low back pain are common and it continues to be burdensome condition for both patients and the NHS. There is a resultant imperative to ensure patients receive the right treatment at the right time. A decision support tool for LBP developed with a Delphi approach has been implemented with some success in the past, but could results be improved with AI techniques? This study proposes and pilots a method for building an AI clinical reasoning model using expert judgements from MSK practitioners.
