Developing and Coaching Physically Active Girls and Women

Abstract

Unprecedented attention to gender equality and gender equity in the sporting context has increased dramatically in the past five years. In this chapter, a broad overview of the current landscape regarding international policy surrounding girls and women will be summarised. Select national policies from around the globe will be investigated in relation to coaching and developing physically active girls and women. Strategies, investments, and initiatives for achieving gender equality in sport will be discussed and policy outcomes and their effect on sport will be embodied through a current female coach’s narrative. While many actors are making a significant impact within the sport ecosystem, further action is needed in the fight to achieve and sustain gender equality and gender equity in sport.
