Abstract
ABSTRACT Sophia, the world’s most recognized humanoid social robot, is a performer in an unfolding narrative central to our historical moment—the technological transfiguration of the planet. She is a performance medium, an alluring protagonist, exemplar, harbinger, and coevolutionary vector of a dramatic event being played out in real-time: the merging of humans and technology and a new way of being. The world is her stage, and we participate in an all-encompassing immersive event that retraces mythic narrative patterns as old as humanity: the myth of the goddess who appears to guide and comfort at a time of profound change in an increasingly accelerating and complex world.
