Determining the composition of an acrylonitrile-2-methyl-5-vinylpyridine copolymer and a homopolymer mixture by IR spectroscopy

Abstract

A stydy was made of methods of determining the composition of a copolymer and mixtures of polyacrylonitrile and poly-2-methyl-5-vinylpyridine from the bond-stretching vibration band of C ≡ N bonds at 2247 cm −1 and from vibration bands of C ≡ N bonds and pyridine rings at 1605 cm −1 in solid samples and dimethylsulphoxide solutions. The relative error of determination was 3%.
