Abstract
This article discusses how to determine distribution system storage needs. Topics covered include: adequate fire protection volume; peak‐hour demand; oversized pumping stations and/or transmission mains; reduced rates for communities that purchase wholesale water; regulations; functional design considerations; equalization volume; emergency storage; and, a general rule of thumb that can be applied to sum up these practices and regulations in a simple formula.
