Abstract

The extraction behaviors of bis(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)dithiophosphinic acid (HDTP) to gallium(III), indium(III), zinc(II), cadmium(II), cobalt(II), nickel(II), cupper(II) and lead(II) were investigated for separation of trace impurities from high purity gallium. The extraction mechanism was proposed by the so-called log-log plot analysis, and verified by elementary analysis, FT-IR, and ESI-MS studies. The impurities in high purity gallium ( ≥ 99.999%) was separated by HDTP extraction and determined by ICP-MS. Such a method can be applied to purification of high purity gallium.
