Abstract
We report a theoretical study on the Z-scan technique by using quasi-one-dimensional slit beam, when a nonlinear medium possesses third- and fifth-order nonlinearities simultaneously. For the case when the third- and fifth-order nonlinear refraction coefficients γ and γ′ have the same sign, we can extract both γ and γ′ from the empirical formula we found. When γ and γ′ have the opposite sign, a high-accuracy method was proposed to allow the determination of the nonlinear refraction coefficients related to the third- and fifth-order effects. We also find the empirical formulae, which can easily estimate the pure two-photon absorption coefficient and the pure three-photon absorption coefficient, respectively.
