Abstract
Oxidation of thiourea and tetramethylthiourea by alkaline iodine is studied. The reaction is found to proceed quantitatively over a wide range of experimental conditions. A method of estimating thiourea and its tetramethyl derivative is developed, based on the titration of the excess iodine against standard arsenious oxide in a suitable pH range.
