Abstract

ICAP-AES analysis of calcium in reconstituted lyophilized reference serum was performed by high-pressure digestion, low-temperature ashing and direct dilution as sample treatment methods. Within each method two dilution factors (100 and 1000) were applied. Statistical treatment of the analytical data showed that each procedure yielded a valid estimate of the target concentration value, the accuracy of which was better than 1.5%. For practical reasons, the direct dilution procedure is to be preferred. ICAP-AES thus constitutes a valuable supplementary technique to ID-MS and AAS for the determination of calcium in serum.
