Abstract
The histamine sensitizing unitage (HSU) of the U.S. Standard Pertussis Vaccine Lot 6 was determined in relation to the Netherlands Reference Pertussis Vaccine 2 which had 1 HSU per protective unit. The same ratio was found for the U.S. Standard. Two other lots of plain pertussis vaccine had ratios of 1·8 and 2·4 HSU to 1 protective unit. The ratios between opacity units and protective units varied significantly whereas the ratios between opacity units and HSU were consistent. The application of the findings to the control of pertussis vaccine is discussed.
