Abstract

We consider the problem of determining the electrical axis of the heart (EAH) in automatic EKG diagnostic systems. From the synchronously recorded EKG records of 80 patients, a comparison is made of the position of the EAH obtained from standard and orthogonal leads, by amplitudes and area methods, and for various pairs of leads from the extremities in the standard system. The advantages of the area method for computing the electrical axis of the heart in automatic systems are shown.
