Determination of the conformations of certain unsaturated aromatic hydrocarbons by a refractometric method

Abstract

1. The conformation of unsaturated aromatic compounds was determined by a refractometric method. 2. The effectiveness of conjugation and the angle of rotation between the vinyl group and the aromatic system were estimated quantitatively in ortho-,α-, andβ-alkyl derivatives of styrene, as well as in di-, tri-, and tetraphenylethylenes and their alkyl derivatives.
