Abstract

An inhomogeneously broadened magnetic resonance absorption line with reflection symmetry about the line center and consisting of overlapping spin packets with Lorentzian lineshape and equal widths is analyzed theoretically. It is shown that the wings of the line are identical in shape to the wings that would be observed if all spin packets of the inhomogeneous envelope were shifted in position to exact superposition at the line center. This permits a unique determination of T 2 without knowledge of the particular distribution of resonance conditions that gives rise to the inhomogeneous line.
