Abstract

A preconcentration technique is described for silver, which allows the precise and accurate determination of silver in sea water at nanogram per liter levels. Silver is co-precipitated with cobalt(II) pyrrolidinedithiocarbamate from 200-ml samples. The precipitate is dissolved in concentrated nitric acid and silver is quantified by Zeeman graphite-furnace atomic absorption spectrometry, with acid phosphate matrix modification. The detection limit is 0.1 ng l −. The method is simple and rapid, and also allows the simultaneous extraction of lead, copper, cadmium, and nickel.
