Abstract

A simplified preconcentration procedure for the trace element profile studies of selenium using radioisotope induced X-ray fluorescence, RIXRF, is described. The method is based upon sample digestion followed by separation of selenium from the bulk by solvent extraction. The signal to noise ratios in the X-ray spectra are improved and interference from Br and As is significantly reduced. Levels of detection in the submicrogram range are achievable. Submicrogram quantities of selenium in animal tissues can be analyzed by the method.
